sunshine & holidays

A few weeks ago my sweet friend, Abbey, lent me her DSLR camera to see if I liked it, and naturally, I fell completely in love. I loved the beautiful, bokeh effect that various lenses created and the overall image quality. I'm so excited because I'm currently saving up for a camera just like it and not only will it make this blog a whole lot better, but I'll be able to improve my photography skills. How was you first experience with a DSLR? Did you love the difference compared to a point-and-shoot?

These were some of the pictures I still hadn't gotten around to posting. It wasn't as cold as it is now so I was making the most of wearing simply one layer of clothing. We had ventured out to a charming cafe that day (one of my favourite things to do) then headed to the bookstore by the beach. I bought a book called Le Road Trip by Vivien Swift. Not only was it filled with enchanting, vivid drawings, but Vivien's lovely way with words were perfect for taking me on a journey through France without having to leave my warm bed.

(How to survive winter: 1 cup of something warm, two issues of Frankie, crafts books, and many blankets)

The weather has, however, taken a turn for the worst. The temperature has dropped below average for us Australians, and I have no choice but to rug up in almost every item of clothing I own; with two pairs of socks + slippers and a blue beret to top it all off! I may be starting to envy the balmy weather overseas...
Have a lovely Tuesday xx

I loved it when I first got a DSLR but I am still learning how to use it. It has been freezing lately! I can't wait to head off to Europe at the end of the week to warm up.

What in the world? Today was freezing for us here in Wollongong (1 hour from sydney if you're not from NSW) I am so jealous! hahaha Been such a great past few days though!! I miss the sun..

My first experience with the DSLR was disastrous! I couldn't focus the camera then, until I realised it was on manual focus.. 2 years later.. I am taking pictures on a regular basis (except during exams) such a wonderful feeling.. I can't live without it!

Check out my blog if you want to see a few of my "work" houseofthetalethief.blogspot.com

I discovered you today and have been going through your archive.. AMAZING!!!!

I am so wanting a DSLR camera! Along with a Bose portable iPod player. Those are the 2 next big items on my list. Probably won't be able to figure the camera out for awhile so I haven't been in a big hurry but I find I want one a little more each day :o)

On another note, I received my dress from Shabby Apple and it is gorgeous! (For others, I was the winner of Avenue M's Shabby Apple gift cert..yeah!) I also got my sandals to match and I love them too! Will do an outfit post as soon as I can.

We will be at 100 degrees this weekend. Wish you could come visit and leave those socks at home! I wear 2 pair also when cold :o)

I actually think I am in love with my new dslr haha I got it for my birthday a month ago and I almost started crying, dslrs just focus so nicely <3 . It's actually quite cool where I live too, which is silly because it's meant to be summer haha, but I hate the hot weather so I'm fine with it. When I went to Australia last summer (winter there) it was a lot colder than I expected! I was in Sydney and it was the rainiest winter in like 60 years in nsw hahah it didn't stop raining for like a week, anyways despite the weather i still love sydney so much <3

This skirt is SO adorable. Absolutely love it.

My roommate has an DSLR that she uses to take a lot of my photos during school times, but during the summer I'm stuck with my point and shoot. I'm saving up for a DSLR too, but I love when my roommates around and lets me take photos of her because I love shooting with them.

These photos are beautiful Maria! And ah, how I want a DSLR! It will be awhile until that happens though, but hopefully I will snag a job after graduating...

It is so cold in Perth at the moment too, like ridiculously so! Most of the time I find myself in old, snugly tour jumpers hehe.

I must start writing your letter soon, I have so many last minute tests before the holidays (don't you love how teachers load all this extra work when everyone's tired and pinning for the holidays?)

These are such gorgeous pictures Maria! I am going to buy a DSLR (hopefully soon) but I don't know what type to get! What type is your friend's one, and what did you think of it?

Hi Jane! Abbey's camera was a lumix g10. It was a great camera but I've already got it fixed in my head that I want a canon 1100D. It's about $500 and I'm halfway there.
Thanks for the amazing comments everyone <33
