BFF + giveaway winner!

I'm planning on framing the top two for my room, they'll look really lovely!

Izzy and I were quite astonished to find out that we hadn't had official photos together since we were thirteen (cue this post) so we set to work planning the pictures; with a sleepover before-hand, of course! The weather here in Australia has been quite, uh, unpredictable so we needed warm woolies and chai lattes on hand at all times.
Despite the weather constantly playing tricks on us, we managed to capture the perfect shots and have numerous giggles in between!
I honestly don't know how I would remain sane without Izzy! She basically gets me through everything...♥
You can look at the rest of the pictures on Izzy's blog, Views of Now. Have a great week and I'll be back with some outfit pictures from the same day soon!

P.S: The winner of the Shabby Apple giveaway was Darlene from My Mauve Shoes! Congratulations and enjoy your prize ♥

Maria,

Unfortunately in your lifetime you will come across individuals such as the one who anonymously commented this morning. Let's call him or her person X. The topic of X's comment is obviously heavy criticism. I'm writing to you now because this is an opportunity to learn when to take criticism on board and when to identify a person's opinion as irrelevant.
One of the most important things you will learn as you get older is that you can consider another perspective without agreeing with it. Aristotle once said "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." This phrase will be helpful in many, many situations, whether they entail choosing a product for purchase, conducting academic research, reading a magazine article or a critical blog comment. The point I'm trying to make here is that when you are presented with ANY information, regardless of the source, you can look at it without accepting it to be valid.
Looking at the above comment by person X, we can think about:

1.) the source,
2.) the message and
3.) the audience.

Firstly, the source is unknown. Person X has not identified themselves, and has instead chosen to anonymously point out what he/she perceives to be your flaws. So how to we know if this person is an expert, to be taken seriously? We don't. In fact, by not identifying themselves, we can probably assume that X's opinion comes from a source that shouldn't be judging others.
Secondly, the nature of the message should be considered. Is it critical? Check. Is it constructive? No. (Constructive criticism is motivated by the goal of improvement).
X has chosen to mention aspects of your appearance and your abilities, placing them in a negative light. X does not write with good intentions, e.g. to offer you advice on improvement, but has chosen to only highlight what he/she perceives to be your flaws. Therefore, X is motivated by something else.
Regrettably, a common tactic used in non-constructive criticism is manipulation. Manipulation concerns behaviour that aims to "achieve a desired goal using deception, coercion and trickery, without regard for the interests or needs of those used in the process" ( Bower, 2003: "Manipulativeness" ).
So basically, X is trying to manipulate you to damage your self esteem. He/she is trying to achieve this by picking things to say he/she thinks will tap into your insecurities and make you feel bad about yourself.
Why would someone do that? Well, we don't know who X is, so we can only hypothesise as to what motivated them to try to hurt you.
Their possible reasons for doing this range from simple jealousy to something more serious, such as significant mental dysfunction. It is likely that this person is aggressive and irritable in nature, in addition to showing a lack of remorse and reckless disregard for the feelings of others (in this case, you). Worse case scenario for person X is that they have the symptomology of an individual with Antisocial Personality Disorder. (see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001919/)
So either way, X is either simply immature and jealous, or they have some serious psychopathological problems. Which means you can't actually subscribe to their critical opinion of you.
Having known you personally for a long time, I've seen numerous people admire and/or comment on your physical beauty, your talent for writing, and your kind and generous personality. I've also been privileged to know you in times of hardship and loss, and your warmth and selflessness is often demonstrated even when you are sad or stressed. Your optimism and resilience have caused you to blossom from a shy little girl to a lovely, confident young woman.
You're unfailingly kind, a trait "people never fail to undervalue, I'm afraid" (JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince).

Rosey.

Rosey, you are a smart, eloquent person who has hit this nail on the head. I would have described 'X' rather more crudely, but 'immature and jealous, or..psychopathological' pretty much covers it.

These two clever, gorgeous girls are having fun, exploring personal expression and showing a remarkable commitment to something a bit more than hobby. I wonder how 'X' spends his/her time?

These photos are perfectly whimsical Maria! What a gift to have such a true blue friend like that. Your flower crowns are the icing on the cupcake:) You both look gorgeous! xx Marisa

Thanks DeLynne. I agree, they are both lovely people and are bringing beauty to the physical and online world through their blogging activity.

As for 'X': venomous words reflect an ugly heart. Your inappropriate navigation of social situations is a cry for attention. And a cry for help. Sort your shit.
