Vintage '50s beach editorial vs. Lover the Label swimsuit. Comparing swimsuits was so easy, especially when vintage designs are really popular right now.
A 1950's dress pattern vs. Aya's pretty frock. Similar full skirted design and belted waist.

I guess you could come to the conclusion that fashion has changed a lot over the decades, but the core classics have remained the same (with slight variations). Full skirted sun/dresses, high waist bikinis, vintage prints, classic Hollywood ball gowns and simple yet daring makeup and hair haven't really gone astray. Most of the time they have just been temporarily replaced (ahem, cue the Twiggy era).
One of my favourite past-times is collecting similar outfits and comparing them between the years difference. I've discovered that it isn't very hard at all to find dresses, hair styles and other things nowadays that are similar {and sometimes identical} to what the rage was way back when (I'm talking the '40s, '50s & '60s). The little collages are just a few examples of how much fashion has stayed very much the same and how classics will always be classic. My favourite is the swimsuit comparison. How did you guess?

Liz Taylor's gorgeous ball gown vs. modern day collections. Very similar neckline style and printed chiffon.
Marilyn Monroe's cat-eye glasses vs. an editorial with a main feature of red cat-eye glasses.

weekend bliss

It has been a very lazy Sunday, I guess this is just a preview of what's to come these up-coming holidays. Enjoying the simple things. Actually being bored. I used to think boredom was a dreadful thing but now it seems quite pleasant as I think of just relaxing and taking in the mellow temperature whilst eating frozen raspberries and blueberries. Novels are going to be effortlessly devoured this Summer too. I guess I have to make up for lost time {it's been a while since I've been able to enjoy a bit, fat book}.
The image above is from the Ruche blog. It's the sweetest DIY on how to make this sweet little bathroom tray. I thought it would be a great idea for a weekend project or for when you have spare time. The design is very classy and Chanel-ish. I can't wait to make one for my new and improved room! (pictures coming soon)

Yesterday I went shopping with my Mum for some Summer essentials. I got a cute bustier one-piece swimsuit from Target, similar to the pictured swimsuit. I was slightly more reluctant to get them than my Mum was {the pattern was very bright and bold} but I decided to try them on anyway. It turned out perfectly, the colours didn't make my white skin look blindingly pale or washed out. And, when we took them over to the counter, we realised we had also gotten them at $9.00 off. Bonus! An adorable and unique swimsuit for $36, which leaves me with more money to spend on clothes. ♥

The obsession with vintage bikinis and pretty swimsuits in general continues! Any ideas where these came from?

Yes, I still haven't gotten over the 'socks-and-heels' trend. I guess it's all thanks to Mayo Yo from the blog Mellow Mayoness, she has the most gorgeous sock collection I've ever seen; lace, florals, dots and stripes!
I love Carrie's revolving style. She suits the adorable tomboy trends and cute floral fifties look. WishWishWish is a constant inspiration. Her adventures in Paris have especially caught my eye lately, she was even spotted wearing mustard tights (brave girl)!
Ahh, we are well into November, and I must say, summer has arrived early! I've been inspired so much this month by cute trends, pretty sun-dresses and adorable swimsuits. I'm going shopping for a new swimsuit this Saturday and I'm picking up a vintage style desk and chair for my room from my lovely friend, Belle. I can't wait for the holidays when I can officially start re-decorating my space! Happy mid-week!

I got my first article published in print! Although it's mini, I love it to death ♥

Polka dot and floral bow bandeau set, $70.00
I've solved your swimsuit dilemma (well, if your a vintage loving, floral coveting, bikini wearer). Amourouse, a little etsy boutique with made-to-order lingerie and swimwear is selling these precious bikinis. Unlike any other I've seen (I'm so used to seeing skimpy little numbers in the swimwear stores!) and are at a very reasonable price for the cutest swimmers around. I fell head over heels for the green and floral ones, so pretty!
The passed for days have been very busy, on Saturday my sisters and Mum went to a local 'Swap Party'. We had to bring in old clothing, bric-a-brac, books etc. that would be exchanged for another person's unwanted items. It was wonderful, not only did I feel very environmentally friendly, but I scored half a wardrobe! I picked up some gorgeous things from Sportsgirl, Sass, Target etc and was so happy because it was all free! (Outfit post coming up soon)

I hope the rest of your week is just lovely!

5 favourites thursday

My top five things lately, not to mention those amazing shoes below! I'm so excited about getting the new Teen Vogue in the mail, Alexa looks gorgeous in that Stella McCartney bow dress.
The top and bottom right frocks are from Chicwish. Aren't they sweet? The red floral one is like a little apron-dress from the fifties! I think I would add a skinny, white belt though and a cute white satchel. I've also been on a desperate search for a pretty, vintage inspired swimsuit. I love this Anthropologie pink one, the design is so pretty and flattering.

Well, sorry for my unexplained M.I.A-ness lately. School has been so hectic. I have so many assignments due, it's crazy! I can't wait to enjoy a little down time this weekend. Reading the latest SHOP and Vogue and watching a few DVD's sounds good to me.
These heels are from GoJane. Ohh, I love them! Happy almost-Friday! xo
