all about me!

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Hello, hello! This post is inspired by Sophie from Nana Wintour! I've been wanting to do a Q&A post for such a long time now and I thought you guys might enjoy it if I elaborated on my About Me page. Enjoy! Oh, and don't forget to have a peak at Sophie's version, I give credit to her for the questions :)

♥ What is your name & do you have any nicknames? My name is Maria! My family calls me Ria though, as well as a few very close friends.

♥ Do you have any siblings? I am of a family of seven! Six children and my darling Mother. I am the fourth born.

♥ How old are you? I am 16 years old.

♥ What's your height? I am 175cm last time I was measured (which was last August), so I may have grown or shrunk.

♥ Do you have any pets? Unfortunately not! We used to; a lovely Labrador named Pepper when we lived in upper Queensland. Don't have any pets any more though as the family fish passed away a few weeks ago. It was quite a hard time for all of us, including my 9 year old little sister.

♥ What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Blogging! I love to blog, and read other blogs. I get so excited when I see that my favourite fashion bloggers have just done a new post. I also love cooking (it's especially wonderful if you are down in the dumps), read books and draw. Anything creative and fun, really!

♥ Who inspires you? Many people inspire me! My Mum inspires me every day, other fashion bloggers inspire me with their beautiful style and marvellous personalities, oh, and Anne Hathaway! She is one of my favourite actresses. Despite negative media attention lately; she always remains classy and handles situations well. There is many other people out there who make me want to get up out of bed in the morning, but these are just a few.

♥ What do you consider your greatest achievement? Being featured in Teen Vogue! Ah! Still can't get over that actually. It seems like only yesterday I was a 12 year old flicking through the pages dreamily wishing to be featured like all of those brilliant girls. And my dream actually came true!

♥ What do you value most in life? Love, compassion and honesty.

♥ What do you do? I am a year 11 student! I also have a part time job and I blog. It's so difficult juggling all three of those occupations but I'm doing my best!

♥ What is your dream job? Being a professional blogger would be a w e s o m e . Could you even imagine how much fun it would be to attend fashion events all over the world, write and take pictures as a full time job?! AND get paid for it?! In the mean time, I am hoping to study a Bachelor of Creative and Professional Writing at the Queensland University of Technology. I'm really excited about it!

♥ Do you have any phobias? Cockroaches... and ants. Ugh, I despise them both.

♥ Where have you been on holiday & where was the best? I've been as far as the Gold Coast when it comes to real "holidays". I've never been outside of Queensland unfortunately and am dying to go overseas to Europe, America and Africa.

♥ Favourite childhood memory? I was homeschooled up until year 3 along with all of my other older siblings and the baby at the time. We were constantly getting up to mischief like building cubby houses, cooking with mum etc. A particular aspect of my childhood that I love was when I used to join in on my older siblings' "markets" in which we would wash and er, polish rocks from the driveway and trade them amongst each other as precious jewels. I also loved to visit my Nanna's farm and hang out with her cows, explore the rainforest and play with her endless selection of toys. I miss her so, so much.

♥ Heels or flats? Heels are great for my confidence but they are not the most pleasant to wear! I do wear flats overall as they're so much easier.

♥ Favourite moisturiser? I use a moisturiser by QV. It's formulated for ultra sensitive skin and it's great for me because I get really itchy after having a shower.

♥ Where do you buy most of your clothes from? I buy the majority of my clothing from Asos, Target, Ally, Portmans and thrift stores. Op shops are my favourite out of all of those though because you never know what you're going to find!

Favourite shop? Target. I love Target. It has everything... home wares, pretty undies and bras, clothes and makeup.

♥ Favourite makeup brand? Stila has the prettiest eyeshadows. I also like Dior's mascara.

♥ Favourite drugstore makeup brand? Revlon

♥ Favourite nail polish brand? I love Mode! They are so cheap and are amazing quality!

♥ What was your first makeup item? The Maybelline Mineral Power liquid foundation. They've since discontinued it which is terrible because it was awesome!

♥ Can you please show your followers how you organise all your jewellery/accessories? Of course! Take a peak here!

♥ Lipgloss or mascara?
Mascara. I'm not a lip gloss girl, the sticky feeling is one of my pet peeves and it's 10x worse when your hair blows into it and you spend about 5 minutes spluttering and trying to unstick it! Written from experience *le sigh*

♥ What's your worst shopping habit? I take forever to make a decision and it drives whoever has accompanied me CRAZY! Unless it's my oldest sister; she is the exact same... or maybe even worse! Haha.

♥ Do you have a signature scent? Miss Dior Cherie EDP by Dior

♥ Do you bite your nails? I can be a terrible nail biter. Usually I am pretty good... my nails look lovely and long but when I am stressed (this usually occurs during exam block) my nails go from long and fabulous to pitiful stumps in a matter of minutes. You can always tell if I'm going through a rough time if my nails aren't long. I'm working on it though! Promise!

♥ Which five male celebs would be on your "list"? Aaron Johnson, Ryan Gosling, Evan Crooks, Eddie Redmayne and Austin Butler. *swoon*

♥ Do you have a favourite book? I love anything written by Nicholas Sparks (despite the crying fits that usually ensue after finishing a book), The Help and the Harry Potter series. I also love the works of Beverly Lewis, Lemony Snicket, Gail Carson Levine and Enid Blyton.

♥ Do you watch any American tv? If so what is your favourite? I love The O.C (I've been hooked lately!), The Carrie Diaries (um, is anyone else totally obsessed with Dorrit's new boyf?!), Hart of Dixie and Little House on the Prairie (an oldie but a goodie).

♥ Why don't you make YouTube videos? I do have a youtube channel and make videos but I find it so hard to ever be happy with the footage I have! Plus, Windows Movie Maker is probably the most frustrating editing program. Ever. I'm going to try and improve on this though... as I think it's important to include videos every so often on my blog :)

What is your favourite Reality tv show? I don't really watch any reality tv! Most of the time I think it's a whole lot of staged hooey! If I am feeling in the mood though, anything to do with cooking is always interesting.

♥ Who is your favourite makeup guru? HelloKatyxo, Tanya, Michelle and Shannon are my faves!

♥ What is your favourite style to decorate your bedroom; chic, modern, vintage etc? Mostly vintage, with hints of modern (there's a fine line between vintage and granny!) and chic.

♥ Favourite flower?
Roses are so romantic. Favourite smell and they are the prettiest of all.

♥ If you could have a dinner party with five celebrities, dead or alive, who would you invite? J.K Rowling, Walt Disney, Marilyn Monroe, Julia Roberts and Ryan Gosling (I'd probably slip a bit of love potion into his beverage if my devilishly good looks and charm didn't succeed).

Lauren wears: Sheinside blouse, Ally shorts, Oasap bag,

Yay! Finally on holidays and free for two weeks! Despite having three school based projects to work on during the holidays, it's still going to do me so much good. I swear I need to catch up on sleep from the start of the year! Anyway, I received this pretty blouse from Sheinside a few weeks ago and was super disappointed that it didn't fit so I asked my friend Lauren if she's like to be on Avenue M! She said yes and was an absolute natural in front of the camera. The lighting was just beautiful and I'm so happy with how the photos turned out.
Today was so crazy! We spent the morning at the local nursing home handing out Easter eggs to the elderly, then headed uptown to buy a few things. It was so much fun! I can't wait to post more often over the next few weeks! xoxo

My outfit for the vintage fair // A delicious frappe from Starbucks // A few more pretty pictures from the fair // My two beautiful besties and I before the Year 10 dance last year

I'm on holidays in two days! Today I finally got around to editing the photos from last years dance and I am so pleased with how they turned out! It was such an amazing night and I loved looking back on all the photos and reminiscing about how marvellous it was. From left to right: Lauren, Sarah and I! I thought it was really cool how all of our dresses matched a little -- we do love our pastels ♥
The holidays are appraching quickly and I couldn't be more excited! Lots of blog posts, reading, cooking and posting off packages. Oh! And I'm also going for my license next week. I've been putting it off for too long (I turned 16 exactly a month ago today) and I should really hop to it.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was any posts you guys would like to see? A DIY? Day in the life? I'm not going to lie but all of this school work has bogged my brain and I'm finding it hard to come up with blog post ideas. I would love it if you could leave me a comment down below, tweet me or email me some ideas! Love you guys xo

kitten d'amour

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Whilst roaming the shops of Queen St. mall in Brisbane (wide eyed, mind you), we stumbled across one of the most spectacular and fanciful shops ever. It was a vintage lover's heaven! Kitten D'Amour was nestled near a the emporium and it was such an exciting discovery! The dresses were simply beautiful adorned with lots of lace, flowers and tulle and the girls who worked there was just wonderful! They told me that each item is handmade and on every garment there is a little tag that tells you want number it is out of a limited amount. How special! I decided to buy a pretty pocket watch with the Eiffel Tower on it as a souvenir and it was beautifully wrapped. I can't wait to go back again!

You can visit the beautiful site here and like their Facebook page here! Have a wonderful weekend!
