I've been interviewed!

(These are some flowers I am in the process of pressing. It's become a new hobby to preserve pretty blooms in the pages of a book. I'm going to leave these for a few more weeks so that the colours become faint and lovely)

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I was interviewed by Veena over at her gorgeous blog, Seven Inch Stilettos. She wrote the kindest introduction too; it made me grin from ear to ear! I would highly recommend checking her blog out, her writing is impeccable and she is a lovely person ♥

the simple things that make life grand

Saturday, April 28, 2012

This dress is so sweet (literally!). I love how Caitlin has designed such a simple silhouette but made it cute and quirky with a sweet treat pattern! I think it would look so cute with a lavender blazer and light pink mary-janes.

What a splendid idea! I love how colourful and organic this decoration is. Bonus: when the flowers begin to wilt and dry out, they'll be perfect to frame for a whimsical and unique wall decoration.

I really must learn to master the art of making macarons sometime soon. These look too delectable to pass up!

I'm always finding unique DIYs on Pinterest. This is such an amazing one, there is no limit to the amount of versatility that these papers flowers can create!

I love this purse. It's so many things I love all sewed up into one: vintage, mail, old stamps and pretty patterns.

Kelsey Genna's latest Valentine collection is the epitome of femininity. This pink dress with the sweetheart neckline has stolen my heart and carried it into macaron heaven...!

The weekend has started off very nicely (naturally, because I love them so much). I'm a bit tired though as I stayed up very late last night watching Season 2 of Downton Abbey. I love that show; even if it has cost me temporarily drooping eyes! These are just a few of the things that have put a smile on my face lately. Hope your weekend is wonderful!

little town love

Saturday, April 21, 2012

I've just finished eating at an adorable little cafe in my local town (chai latte and blueberry muffin - yum). Now we are off to do some serious thrifting and hopefully I'll bring back home a few treasures to photograph (my instagram is @avenuemaria). I hope your having a delightful weekend and I'm sorry my blogging has been quite scarce lately... I've been terribly busy with school! Send me some letters! avenuemblog@gmail.com

Today we (my family and I) ventured around to a few local op-shops and although I don't have any pictures, I saw some pretty amazing stuff. There were so many lace-up booties and t-bars in creamy colours! Unfortunately I couldn't buy any of them because of my large size nine feet. Oh well. They were still pleasant and exciting to look at (mainly because they were vintage). I get so excited about seeing authentic vintage stuff... and it's kinda embarrassing.

Today is also the 100th year anniversary of the Titanic collision. The movie has always been one of my favourites, hopefully I will be able to catch it in 3D sometime soon.
I hope you have a nice weekend!
Oh, and I also forgot to mention that I now have a Facebook page! It's so awkward spamming you all but feel free to like for an easier way to keep up to date with this here blog.

a pretty diy

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

With inspiration from the Ruche blog, Izzy and I set to work on lovely perfume trays today. It was a lot of fun and surprisingly easy for such a beautiful display piece. All you need is a white frame (we painted ours white), decorated paper, lace or doilies (whatever you think will match your fragrance collection), glue and a few decorations. I found some pretty paper roses in the craft store yesterday that added a nice touch to the frame. Simply insert the paper into where the photograph should be, glue the decorations onto the frame and arrange your perfumes nicely. You can read about the full instructions here. I highly recommend it; it's so easy and looks lovely on any duchess or table.

Onto other news, yesterday I got my braces. I know it will be all worth it next October when they are removed, but they hurt so! Today I've been eating lots of 'soft' foods like porridge, noodles and pureed fruit. Thankfully the pain with have surpassed within the next few days and I will be back to eating like a normal person and not wincing at the dinner table, hehe!
Enjoy the rest of your week! ♥

Oh, and I am now on Facebook!

april showers

...haven't started yet and I'm glad! The weather has been beautifully sunny and bright the last few days which is one of the reasons I love Autumn and Winter. This is outfit is just another complete dream... although I am quite tempted to snap those pretty Modcloth earrings up! I love the way the dusty pink and turquoise go together... an unexpected pairing but a lovely match.

Also, I painted my nails with as much sparkles and multicoloured polishes I could find at Izzy's place. I'm on holidays now (yippee!) so painting my nails extravagantly is quite a huge deal since school rules are so strict.  I then got so fascinated by her Canon camera that I took pictures of everything I saw... including door handles, windows, table legs, nuts and other weird things! After that, we baked a scrumptious cake and lazed around... it was so much fun!
Well, I hope the rest of your week is brilliant and you are adjusting to the fabulous change in weather! Oh, and if you have any suggestions for this blog on anything (post ideas etc) and what you would like to see more of, please send me an email: avenuemblog@gmail.com. I would really appreciate it!

april blogger: the lovely miss likey

Sunday, April 01, 2012

Hello everyone! I would like you all to meet the charming Nina of Miss Likey. I was instantly drawn to her pretty blog because of her collages and her sweet taste. I hope you enjoy these eight quick questions and the above 'favourites things' collage she kindly did for this interview.

Your collages are beautiful! Where do you always go looking for inspiration?Thank you :) I usually go from the story I imagine. Then I open my scrapbook folder which is full of different paper cuts, backgrounds etc. Tumblr is also great. I’ve always loved to combine different images or paper things- since I was a little girl. My parents used to be upset with little paper rests I was leaving behind me.

Based on the fashion, is there any other era you would like to visit for a day?
Oh yes, Victorian and Edwardian though I would find those restrictions on female rights very upsetting. 1920s are the years that also amuse me. And 1960s- if there’s a time machine I would go to Biba and ask for a job!
In your spare time, you would most likely be found...Sewing, reading and cleaning. An ordinary housewife :)

If you could move to or visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?I would move to London definitely. It’s my favorite place on the earth, so poetic yet so vivid.

Vintage or new?Rare vintage and new that has appearance of vintage.
The three things that are always in your bag, include...Cigarettes unfortunately, Chanel blush and notebook (scrapbook).

At the moment you're reading...
Just finally finished House at Riverton, great novel based in England during Edwardian time. Now started Costume and Fashion, for the third time I believe.

Thanks for letting me interview you, Nina! Any last tips on blogging?
Thank you! I adore your blog. Hmm… I am not exactly the best person to give tips on blogging, but what helps a lot I think is continual posting, individual opinion and original content.

Hope you all  had a marvellous weekend!
