quaint cafes and a darling friend (out & about)

Thursday, January 17, 2013

On Wednesday my sweet friend Abbey and I decided to spend the day taking in the beauty and hidden nooks and crannies in our local town. We headed out early, at precisely nine and went straight for my favourite op-shop, the 'Smiley' opshop where I picked up a few pretty trinkets (which, if you follow me on instagram, you would've seen already hehe)! After that we headed to the most charming café ever, called Husk and Honey. It's relatively new here and many have said wonderful things about the vast array of gluten and grain free menu items. We both ordered a delicious free salad with natural yoghurt, honey, macadamias and these strange (but delicious!) red berries that might have been goji berries, but I can't be sure. Then for drinks she ordered a latte and I ordered a hot chocolate. After chatting away and taking pretty pictures of our food we headed to a gorgeous new boutique next door to the cafe called My Secret Sister's Wardrobe.

Oh my gosh. It is the most precious little shop ever! The decorating is so gorgeous and the girls who run it are super friendly and let me take pictures. It was a little mixture of vintage dresses and new things and Abbey and I were finding it hard to not blow our money on the pretty frocks and shoes! As you can see from the above pictures, they've decorated it very nicely... in a fresh, quirky way. I hope to drop in again soon. It was such a lovely day out and I really missed Abbey and it was lovely to catch up with her before school starts again ♥

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far! I sure have, probably because I'm desperate to make the most of what's left of my holidays. Lots of love xoxo

Isn't she a pretty lady?
We even headed back there for afternoon tea! Iced chocolate, yum!

life's a beautiful thing...

“This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, somg go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate.

You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.”

Flower hair clips. Easy, pretty and fun. I would definitely like to create something like this flowery head piece from Free People. It would also be a lot of fun to create glitter headbands too!

Lemon souffle pancakes! I've never made a souffle before due to the constant bad luck that pairs with my usual French cooking (ehem, macarons resembling squashed whoopee pies!) but these 'pancakes' with a souffle and lemony twist look quite delectable and fool proof. My Mum better get excited; Mother's Day is going to be a feast (inspired by Pinterest) to remember! You can find out how to make these here: kokken69: Lemon Souffle Pancakes

Who thinks up these things? Storing my earrings in a macaron is basically a dream come true. Ruche: Macaron Trinket Boxes

Love is the flower of life, and blossoms unexpectedly and without law, and must be plucked where it is found, and enjoyed for the brief hour of its duration. -David Herbert Lawrence
I found this quote and picture of Marilyn Monroe a few days ago. It really moved me and I just thought I would share it with you all. Hope you all had a lovely day!

how to be fabulous and frivolous

Paris, France
Ah, the weekend is here! Lets add some pizzazz shall we:
1. Go to an op-shop with a friend with a maximum of $20 to spend, pick a theme and create an exciting outfit, jump out of the change rooms and surprise each other!
2. Eat chocolate. Who cares if you are on one of those I-want-to-look-totally-hot-for-summer diets, forget it and devour a block... or two.
3. Go to the beauty therapist and get a full facial and massage. I couldn't actually afford that so I went with the homemade facial experience which is just as good!
4. Write a list of everything you want in your life. This includes; success in your career, a romance, a trip to Paris (London, Rome, America etc), or a clothing item. Pin this up somewhere where you will see it. Keep this list. If you are old and shrivelly, living in a rotten nursing home recounting your life (and peering down at your bunions), read through and check off what you did.
5. Redecorate your room and/or give it a good clean. I LOVE cleaning my room (weird, I know). It gets everything bad off my mind and makes me feel so much better.
6. Have a bubble bath. Cliche I know, but it works
like magic!
7. Snuggle up in your bed, with some (chocolate) and watch Gossip Girl or some romantic comedy and forget how terrible/boring/ordinary your life is right now and focus on the fictional characters'.
8. Write to someone. NOT by email. With a good old, lovely handwritten letter. Find some pretty stationary and pour your heart onto paper.
9. Have a girls night in with a few close friends. Hand write and personalize some cute invites, set out the beds real fancy, hire out a cheesy movie and order the pizza; it's guilt-free girl time!
10. Go down to the nearest ice-cream store and order a 3 scoop-fudge-waffle-cone-chocolate-mint-macadamia-coconut-strawberry-vanilla-sprinkle cone, go back home and sit in front of a fitness show.

I hope everyone has a marvelous weekend!

P.s: As a side note, check out this adorable cotton bikinis. I'm usually not a huge fan of Summer, but these gorgeous bikinis are worth a sneak peek! I also received the lovely giveaway prize from Miss Tea's blog today. Photo's up soon, it's just lovely!
