quaint cafes and a darling friend (out & about)

Thursday, January 17, 2013

On Wednesday my sweet friend Abbey and I decided to spend the day taking in the beauty and hidden nooks and crannies in our local town. We headed out early, at precisely nine and went straight for my favourite op-shop, the 'Smiley' opshop where I picked up a few pretty trinkets (which, if you follow me on instagram, you would've seen already hehe)! After that we headed to the most charming café ever, called Husk and Honey. It's relatively new here and many have said wonderful things about the vast array of gluten and grain free menu items. We both ordered a delicious free salad with natural yoghurt, honey, macadamias and these strange (but delicious!) red berries that might have been goji berries, but I can't be sure. Then for drinks she ordered a latte and I ordered a hot chocolate. After chatting away and taking pretty pictures of our food we headed to a gorgeous new boutique next door to the cafe called My Secret Sister's Wardrobe.

Oh my gosh. It is the most precious little shop ever! The decorating is so gorgeous and the girls who run it are super friendly and let me take pictures. It was a little mixture of vintage dresses and new things and Abbey and I were finding it hard to not blow our money on the pretty frocks and shoes! As you can see from the above pictures, they've decorated it very nicely... in a fresh, quirky way. I hope to drop in again soon. It was such a lovely day out and I really missed Abbey and it was lovely to catch up with her before school starts again ♥

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far! I sure have, probably because I'm desperate to make the most of what's left of my holidays. Lots of love xoxo

Isn't she a pretty lady?
We even headed back there for afternoon tea! Iced chocolate, yum!

A small portion of the things I love at the moment

♥ Flower crowns. They've been popping up everywhere I look! I made a pink rose one today that I'm quite proud of (photos coming soon) and it was so simple. It's amazing what a beauty you can create with just wire, florist tape and artificial flowers.
♥ Some of the pictures that have been popping up in my tumblr feed have been truly breath-taking. One of my favourites is the balcony picture with beautiful blossoms hanging over the edge. It looks so pretty.
♥ Fairy skirts! As soon as I saw this picture I fell in love. The fairy-like skirt is made practical with a belt a sweet blouse.
♥ Mary-Janes! Still quite desperate to get my hands on some of these beauties. I love the thick heel on these tan ones. They remind me of Carrie.
♥ Book stores. One day I simply must own one.
♥ Sending and receiving mail. Isn't it just the most exciting feeling slipping that envelope or package into the box? I really, really love getting mail and writing letters.

Hope you're all having a great week so far!

A small portion of the things I love at the moment
  • The beautiful illustrations by Geneviève Godbout. The talented artist uses classic drawing techniques to create beautiful, coloured pencil artwork. The ideal illustration that would be seen in a children's story book. Oh, I just love 'em!
  • T-bar shoes. Embrace the Madeline look!
  • Gingerbread houses. My sister and I made one the other night... they are so much harder than they look! The gingerbread pieces kept cracking and falling apart. It was really fun though and we did get to eat the jubes and freckles in the end!
  • The Road to Yesterday by L.M Montgomery. The perfect book for summer reading; bursting with unpredictable romances and other short stories.
  • Cameo jewellery. Blame it on reading too many L.M Montgomery books. The brooches attached to the characters ruffle-neck collars look so elegant.
  • Jane Eyre, the  latest movie. I can't get enough of Jane's character and Mr Rochester's gruff disposition -- the chemistry is... well, perfect.
  • Pink nail polish. I have the prettiest shade on right now. It's the perfect balance between hot pink and blush.

This is my favourite illustration by Genevieve, I love the hairstyle!
I also had to thank you all for the lovely comments on my latest post! I'm glad to have further opinions on my glasses {and that they are good ones}, so thank you. You are all so sweet. ♥

A small portion of the things I love at the moment
  • Quirky heels {with socks}
  • Embroidered collars, elegance, high necked dresses
  • Kiera Knightley
  • OPI nail polish. At the moment I'm wearing Serving up Sparkle, very pretty!
  • Christmas cheer. I'm a Christmas fanatic, I love the smell of tinsel, gingerbread and cinnamon rolls (I'm attempting them these holidays!)
  • Dario Marianelli's amazing music. He wrote the score for both Jane Eyre and Atonement and I've been listening to his music non-stop all day...
  •  Etsy store, Hunter Gatherer, stocks the most beautiful accessories
  • The movie Anastasia. Dancing to 'Once upon a December' in ballet is the loveliest thing ever
  • Hart of Dixie, the tv series with Rachel Bilson. Best. Show. Ever!

I guess you could say I'm a pretty big list maker. I have a journal filled with lists of all sorts. I'm actually looking through it now and I'm surprised at the amount of things I've had to say over the past few months. Wishlists, goals, things to be thankful for, blog ideas, inspiration and feelings etc. It's actually so much fun to read your diary and your thoughts, especially from previous years. I think that'll be another project for the holidays, I can't wait to see what the perspective of my 12 year old self was....

I'm also getting glasses! I went for an eye test today and I have short sited vision. I didn't even realise until I put the glasses on and everything was so sharp and clear. I picked out some subtle frames so that the chances of looking like Mia Thermopolis are slim, haha! (braces are on the way too). ♥
