diary XI // florals, museums, 16 going on 17

Tuesday, February 25, 2014
I'm a 17 year old! I'm so old! Thank you all for the birthday wishes, it's so lovely being surrounded by such good friends! I had a lovely day and although I feel no different physically, it is a little scary to think that I'm half way to being 34! ;)

This is the first time in about two years that you guys have actually seen me wear glasses in an outfit post! I don't wear them often (although I am supposed to... and I often struggle at the back of the class if I "forgot" them...), mainly because they annoy me too much and I feel a little self conscious wearing them. I just don't feel like they suit me! I got an email the other day though asking if I did wear them and if I could post some pictures and here's my response! Me in glasses!

The most incredible exhibition I have ever seen!  Cai Guo-Qiang's beautiful and life-like Falling Back to Earth display left me in awe. I couldn't believe the detail in each animal. It was seriously stunning. If you're in Brisbane, you should definitely stop by the GOMA and pay the $8 entry fee to see the exhibition.

I never leave the gallery without a few special souvenirs! I picked up a beautiful sticker book by Kelly Smith and some post cards!

Amongst a few other beautiful gifts for my 17th birthday, I was given a beautiful array of books and journals to devour as well as a fluffy and dreamy bedspread to feel like a cloud. I think I am going to sleep well. I'm hoping to get a few more decorative cushions soon, too. I'm thinking gold sequins and some lace.

My sister bought me a beautiful bouquet of orange roses for my birthday and I love them! It was my second bouquet this week so I felt quite special. And Ruby gave me a real Polaroid! Eep! I'm definitely going to make the most of the eight prints ♥
I hope you're all having a good week so far! xo

safe haven // my bedroom

Friday, January 03, 2014
Well, hello! And Happy New Year! I'm as late as the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland because the last week has been a flurry of family events, trips, shopping and the general holiday busyness that make days untrackable... (I thought today was Sunday). Anyway, I've been having lovely holidays and although I do miss school and my friends very much, I could get used to the sleep-ins and lazing about endlessly. Yesterday I got back from a fun little 'one- night' trip to Brisbane (as you might have seen on my instagram) with my cousin and aunt. We saw Roger Federer play for the Brisbane International tennis tournament, stayed on the 70th floor of the Meriton and shopped till we dropped. It was fabulous!

As for the room tour, it's been almost a year since my first room tour video, so I thought I would give you all a little peek into my bedroom since it has changed quite a bit since you last saw it! This year I was lucky enough to receive the bed frame I had been coveting for Christmas and I think it's perfect - especially with the fairy lights!

Bed // Overview
I think my Mum bought the bed from a local furniture store, but since it's a Christmas present, I'm not too sure. My bedside table was originally Izzy's but I gave it an epic makeover about two years ago and it's served me well ever since! My bedding is a little mismatched as I decided to save the money I was originally going to spend on a bedspread, and stick with my old favourite duvet over. I like the way it's turned out though; very pink and very me! The latest issue of Frankie was wonderful too, there's nothing better than a huge year planner for your wall. Oh, and ps: that Macbook isn't mine *sob*, it's my sister's and I pinched it because it's fun.

Flower crowns // Perfume
I recently ran out of my signature scent; Miss Dior Cherie so I replaced it with a more affordable fragrance from the Body Shop in Japanese Cherry Blossom. It's very fresh and summery and perfect for every day. My lovely flower crowns weren't made by me (unfortunately I'm not too skilled in the flower craft department), but I love displaying them in parts of my room to brighten things up.

2014 Vintage Disney Calendar
I found this gorgeous Disney calendar on sale at Typo in Brisbane and snapped it up instantly! I'm a huge fan of Disney and the nostalgia that one is overcome with whenever a movie plays. Speaking of Disney movies, have any of you seen Frozen yet? Oh gosh, I loved it. I was laughing so hard in it, I loved Anna's character too, she was just so brilliant. And I thought Olaf was completely adorable and funny. If you haven't seen it yet, I definitely recommend it!

Wardrobe // Makeup Area
This is probably the most frequently evolving area of my bedroom! That portable clothing rack has served me well over the last year (despite it's fickle stability) and it looks lovely and simple. My makeup and summer clothing shelves are also quite useful. I think I'm going to have to do something about that storage though... my makeup corner is an absolute mess! Oh, and stay tuned for a new post featuring some Lush goodies very soon (I went a little crazy in the Brisbane stores hehe).

Anyway, I hope you all had a fantastic NYE and I'll talk to you soon! xo

Wearing my favourite (printed) skirt and feeling a little retro with a blouse from the 90's, red nails and a vintage bag.

I re-arranged my room slightly since the room tour! My bed is now up against the wall to the far left and my wardrobe is now up against the wall too instead of the window. I love it this way, it just seems more spacious.

The nights have been quite chilly lately so it's perfect for snuggling up into my blankets and reading Tuck Everlasting by lamp light.

Doing a little emotional baking. Seriously, baking lifts your mood by at least 100% :)  I am proof heh!

I hope you all had a marvellous Valentine's Day!
P.S: Thank you for all of the kind comments left on the last few posts, I'll try and get back to all of them as soon as I can! :)

My wardrobe: Storage and Decorating Ideas

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Hello everyone! Hope you're all well. I've had a few requests recently to do a room tour post but I thought it would be better to do a wardrobe tour instead since I haven't got my other furniture from IKEA yet. I hope you enjoy this post and feel inspired by it in some way! It was lots of fun to put it together so I hope you like it!

Sunglasses from top: Portmans // Thrift store // Vogue eyewear // Big W

I bought this jewellery stand/ mirror from Target in early August and I've never regretted it. It's perfect for keeping my accessories organised and in order and the mirror is full length so I can do my makeup and inspect my outfits! Multiple hooks adorn the top (perfect for earrings and necklaces!) as well as shelves for purses and sunglasses.
This mirror also came with a lock and key so I can keep all of my precious things safe. Either side are also two little adjusting hooks that are perfect for hanging your bags on. I'm not sure where this would be available outside Australia but I do know that if you do live here there are some available at Homeart

If your walls are bare, a very cheap and easy decorating idea is to fill embroidery hoops with beautiful fabric and hang them. The little adjusting hooks on one side are also great for hanging flower headbands. I think this looks really pretty in my room and complements the colours of my clothing wonderfully. You can also hang hats up on the walls to add a vintage and very girlie touch.

Kmart clothes rack ($12) // Typo Flower lights ($5)

When we moved in to our new house I discovered that my room didn't have a built in closet, which was actually completely okay with me because I've always wanted a clothes rack! I thought I would add a pretty touch to the rack though by entwining these gorgeous flower lights around the top, securing them tightly with tape. They were only $5 from Typo and look really beautiful, especially at night.

I hang my bags on the the little hooks that adjust my mirror. It's the perfect place for them and really brightens the mirror up. I might have to buy some wall hooks eventually though as there is limited room left!

When it comes to my favourite magazines, I love having them near and easy-access. I stack them all up and store them underneath my jewellery cabinet. They look super duper pretty and whenever I need a spot of published inspiration I can lie on my floor and have bountiful magazines at arms reach!
